Training3The Fernwood School is a high performing school recognised for its excellent academic standards and outstanding care and discipline. We are a caring community and work collectively to ensure that both students and staff are happy and flourish during their time here.

Our development and training opportunities are tailored to meet the needs of all our staff. The opportunities provided ensure that teachers and fellow professionals are supported to be the very best they can be. In addition, through our partnership with L.E.A.D. Teaching School Alliance and the University of Nottingham, we are in the process of developing a suite of training modules to add to the existing support and guidance that new teachers receive on entry to the profession. The training will focus on the demands of working in an urban context and is designed to strengthen your teaching repertoire and understanding of the school setting.

We are proud of our long and successful history of training excellent teachers through a variety of routes into the profession. This academic year we have PGCE trainees from a number of universities training with us. We have a proven track record of School Based Training, working in partnership with teaching school alliances and partner universities, to provide year-long school based training experiences tailored to the individual trainee. Each trainee is offered personalised learning opportunities, and is coached by two experienced and motivated mentors on each placement.

Our partnership with L.E.A.D. Teaching School Alliance and the University of Nottingham (an outstanding provider) will enable our School Based Trainees to gain the academic award of PGCE in addition to achieving Qualified Teacher Status.

We recognise the challenges that beginning teachers face in the changing face of education and that we must be constantly be alert to the new methods of teaching, the shifting emphasis in parts of the curriculum, the new discoveries and theories in understanding the learning process, and the advances in subject matter. We will support you wholeheartedly in your journey as a beginning teacher to creating your own classroom and professional style.
