A team of four students from The Fernwood School achieved an excellent 4th place finish out of 28 schools from the Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire area in the Regional Final of the UK Mathematics Trust Team Maths Challenge recently. Wyn and Emily from Year 8, and Nayan and Mia from Year 9, competed superbly across four rounds of mathematical problems and puzzles, achieving extremely high scores in three of the four rounds in particular. Both the level of challenge in the questions and the level of competition from the opposition was extremely high, and our students performed exceptionally, only finishing behind three fee-paying independent schools from Leicestershire and Derbyshire. A huge well done to all four students.
Examples of the sort of problems students tackled can be found on the UKMT website.
Below are some photos of the team from the day.
