On Wednesday 26th April, the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company visited some of The Fernwood School’s Year 9 students. Students learnt about the parallels between hip hop music and the works of Shakespeare. Whilst the two would appear to be at odds with one another, students discovered the similarities between Shakespeare’s use of iambic pentameter and hip hop beats. Ryan, from the Hip Hop Shakespeare Company, tested us by giving us quotes and asking if they were hip hop or Shakespeare. Not even the English teachers got all of them right! The workshops were a fantastic enrichment for students who I am sure will remember it for a long time and their enthusiasm, manners and fantastic ideas were noted by Ryan from THSC.
