National Writing Day

Published on 8th July 2020

National Writing Day, run by First Story, is a celebration of the joy of writing. This year’s theme was ’24/7′ which challenged students to write a 24 word story in just 7 minutes, starting with the phrase ‘One day…’. Students not only had to be creative but judicious with their word choices in order to keep within the 24 word limit. We received some fantastic entries across Key Stage 3; well done to all who entered! It is with great pleasure, I can announce the winners of this year’s National Writing Day competition:

Year 7 winner: Akshiitha

‘One day the world will be my cartoon.
And chaos won’t reside.
So then, I will face the chaos,
paintbrush and imagination in hand.’

Year 8 winner: Oladoyin

‘One day we’ll live in a world without hate, without prejudice, without fear, without bigots. A world where our differences are embraced not loathed.’

Year 9 winner: Samuel

‘One day… Chains will shatter
I won’t be confined
By the excruciating
agonising
harrowing pain
Someday…
Freedom will echo in the darkest of valleys’

Congratulations to Akshiitha, Oladoyin, and Samuel! The English Department have several other writing competitions coming up soon so watch this space…
