You will no doubt have seen the newspaper article regarding the proposed expansion of Fernwood School. I was not expecting the article to be published when it was and some of the information contained in the article was not accurate.
Because of the increasing demand upon school places in Nottingham and, in particular, Wollaton the Local Authority requested that Fernwood School expands by three forms of entry (approximately 75 students) to accommodate increased numbers in the catchment area. We have applied to the Education Funding Agency (EFA) on two occasions for funding to expand the school but have been unsuccessful. Without funding we can not expand.
For this bid the Local Authority is willing to support the school with a contribution of just under a million pounds. Although this will improve the strength of our bid there is still a long way to go. If the bid is successful we have to apply for planning permission and go out to consultation.
We will hear from the EFA in late March and if successful I will be able to provide much more information.
