We would like to make you aware of changes to our Physical Education curriculum implemented from September 2018. As a school, we always aim to teach a diverse, inclusive curriculum for all students. With this in mind, we are introducing more girls’ rugby and football onto the school curriculum and boys’ netball and rounders to ensure all students access the same activities in lessons. As a department, we believe this provides further opportunities for students to find a sport they enjoy and want to pursue beyond the school curriculum.
Considering this, there are alterations to the PE uniform to ensure all students are safe during their lessons. When all students have rugby or football on the curriculum they will be required to bring studded football boots as these lessons will take place on the grass. This is a safety requirement to ensure students minimise chances of injury. In addition, for football and hockey students should bring shin pads, which are a National Governing Body requirement of both sports.
Due to the exciting new build, the school will be undergoing from November 2018 the number of indoor sports facilities will be limited so the majority of lessons will take place outside. Students therefore can bring a thin, plain black waterproof/cagoule to wear for lessons should they wish too. The only exception to this rule would be when students are completing contact rugby lessons where this would not be acceptable, as it would increase the risk of injury.
Further to this, from September 2018 the school will publish all school fixtures and extracurricular clubs on the school website. Please look in the Physical Education section of the website from September for further information.
Thank you for your understanding and support with these important changes to our curriculum to ensure all students have a positive experience in Physical Education lessons. Should you have any queries about anything raised from this letter please feel free to contact me on email@example.com
