Coronavirus Advice

Published on 27th February 2020

Dear Parents

I am writing to share advice that I have received re the Coronavirus.

As always, but particularly now, good basic hygiene is an important part of prevention. This includes, avoiding touching the eyes and nose where possible, and covering one’s mouth whilst sneezing and then washing hands thereafter.

Symptoms initially include a fever followed by a dry cough that turns into shortness of breath. The infection rarely shows signs of a runny nose or sneezing. The virus can cause more severe symptoms in those with weakened immune systems. However, there’s no evidence that children are more affected than other age groups. There’s currently no good evidence that people who don’t have symptoms are infectious to others.

If you have travelled to an at risk category 1 country please stay at home and self-quarantine for two weeks. If you have visited a category 1 or 2 country please inform the school. (see below).

Please see the following link for updates as the countries involved may change. The link also includes a map of key areas.

Public Health England website:

If concerned contact NHS 111 for advice, and:

  • Self-isolate for 14 days after leaving the country or area¬†(see the home isolation¬†advice sheet
  • If they become unwell, call NHS 111 immediately for an assessment (or 999 if they require emergency medical attention)

Kind regards

Paul Burke
