School Closure Student Work

Published on 20th March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

I would like to update you regarding how work will be set during the school closure. The majority of work will be set using Google Classroom. All learners have access to an individual classroom for each subject and teachers will be providing work for all year groups. For any students without Internet access, resource packs will be provided. We will endeavour to support students in all year groups to cover the required curriculum during the school closure.

We are awaiting more information from the Department for Education regarding the measures that will replace the GCSE exams this year for year 11 and will update you as soon as we know more. For students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10, it is essential that they continue with their studies at home in preparation for returning to school once we are able to open fully again.
Staff will be providing support and advice through Google Classroom wherever possible. The work covered during the school closure will be reviewed and reflected upon as much as possible given the circumstances.

Click here for a document¬†with more detailed information from subjects regarding the setting of work. We advise you to balance your child’s well-being with a continued focus on learning. I have also included instructions below regarding Google Classroom should you require assistance.

  • Google Classroom
    • Can only be accessed via the Hub, students cannot login directly to Google.
    • All other Google accounts must be signed out to avoid any conflicts.
  • The Fernwood School Hub
    • Students usernames are their email address and should be in the format:
    • Their password is the normal computer password they use at school.
    • If an ‘internal error 500’ appears after login, clear all browsing data (history, cookies) via the method appropriate for the browser they are using. ¬†Once done, close all browsing windows to ensure all data is cleared and try again.

We will continue to keep you updated as any additional information comes into school.

With kind regards,

Mr Burke
