Following on from my last update, I’m now writing to let you know that we have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday (20th March 2020) until further notice.
As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children who are vulnerable. We are waiting for the government to publish more information on what this means and we will be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to.
All other children will need to stay at home, so we ask that you do not send your child into school from Monday onwards. Please note that this is a national closure, as I am sure you have heard in the news, so whilst it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We will re-open fully as soon as we are given the permission to do so by the government.
For parents with children in Year 11, the news last night regarding the decision to cancel exams will have come as a shock to them (as it did to us) and we are awaiting further information from the government. I will update you again tomorrow. We will be giving the message to Year 11 today that continuing with their studies is essential.
For parents with children in all other year groups, your child’s learning is of course important to us, so we will continue to help your child to learn. Our staff are working tirelessly to produce resources that can be accessed through Google Classroom and we are organising resource packs for any children who do not have access to the information. I will send more information about how this work will be made available in tomorrow’s letter.
I am immensely proud of the way that staff and pupils have conducted themselves during such uncertain times. We have risen to the unprecedented challenges with grace and humour and will continue to do so over the coming weeks. We appreciate the support you have already shown.
This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it is far from ideal, but we will continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops.
Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can. I would advise as parents to be kindly towards yourself given the current circumstances.
With kind regards,
Mr Paul Burke
