We are aware that many of our students will have been affected by the recent news coverage of the death of George Floyd in America and the resulting action by citizens around the world. As a school we want to ensure we support our students as well as working together to try to ensure that in our diverse community, we celebrate our differences and come together as the Fernwood Family.
With this in mind, Mrs Clay prepared an assembly which she posted on Google Classroom. Sadly, a member of our Year 9 community thought it was appropriate to take a clip from that assembly and post it on social media, in an attempt to discredit Mrs Clay and also the Black Lives Matter movement.
We take this extremely seriously and ask for your help in having a discussion with your child about the gravity of this. Not only is it illegal to post images of somebody without their consent, it also could be damaging to Mrs Clay’s reputation and the reputation of the school. Equally, it shows a lack of understanding of the current climate and the approach we all need to take with regards to Black Lives Matter.
I am sure you will support us with your condemnation of this act and ask your son or daughter to pass on any information they may have in relation to this to the school so we can ensure it is removed from social media and dealt with swiftly.
Thank you for your support with this matter.
