The 2012 School Admissions Code removed the requirement for Local Authorities (in this area, Nottingham City Council) to co-ordinate in-year applications from September 2013 and subsequent years.
In this connection, Governors at Fernwood have decided that they do not wish the City Council to co-ordinate such arrangements on their behalf and this advice note has been prepared to assist applicants through the process. This means, therefore, that parents/carers wishing to apply for an in-year place at Fernwood should make a direct application to the school, and not the City Council, using the application form.
An in-year application is one made other than at the time of the normal admissions round and applies to places in all year groups, including any application received from 1st September 2013 for a year 7 place. The normal admissions round is an application to transfer from Junior or Primary school to the school made in October for admission in the following September. It is important to be aware that for the normal admissions round the City Council will continue to co-ordinate arrangements and requests for such places should still be made to the City Council at the appropriate time using the Council’s common application form. This remains the case for transfers to the school in September 2014 for the 2014/15 school year.
Governors have signed-up to a protocol with the City Council on in-year admissions and will supply timely information to the City Council in order that the Council may fulfil its safeguarding and admissions monitoring responsibilities.
