Pro rata for Level 1 / Level 2 Learning Support Assistant, depending on experience
We are pleased to be able to offer the opportunity to support a Year 8 boy who is a wheelchair user with severe physical and speech impairments within a mainstream school setting.
The day will initially be a Friday. The role will involve 1:1 provision in the Learning Support area and within mainstream lessons where appropriate. The child concerned currently attends the Oak Field School which specialises in supporting students with complex physical impairments, but will begin attending Fernwood School for one day a week in the autumn term following this appointment.
Full training will be provided by Oak Field School and Nottingham Local Authority prior to the post commencing, and will include courses in moving and handling, specialist equipment training, toileting and intimate care.
This post is an excellent opportunity to be part of an inclusive plan for this child, to train in these areas of support for children with a physical impairment and to be able to work in an outstanding mainstream secondary school.
This is a rare, exciting and rewarding opportunity.
Please contact Mrs C Smith (Personal Assistant to the Head Teacher) by email expressing your interest in the first instance:
We strongly encourage visiting the school before the closing date, prior to submitting an application form (available on the school website), where the full job description will be available. The student will be attending on a Friday afternoon (1.30pm – 3.10pm) with parents for the rest of this term, as part of his transition. This would be the ideal time to visit.
Application forms and further details are available to the right under supporting documents. Please note: the Application Form is in Word 97-2003 format (.doc). Please return your completed application form, together with your letter of application (no more than 2 sides of A4) to the Head Teacher’s PA, Mrs C Smith, by post or by email to: email@example.com The Fernwood School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. All applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring) check.
