We require an enthusiastic and committed teacher of History for a full time permanent position commencing September 2019. This post may be of interest to an experienced colleague or a newly qualified teacher who wishes to join a thriving and successful school.

The History department at Fernwood School currently consists of three specialist teachers and is part of the Humanities Faculty consisting of 9 teachers delivering History, Geography and Religious Studies. The staff are committed to providing all students with the opportunities to thrive in their love of learning and developing an enthusiasm for Humanities.

Students are taught in mixed ability tutor groups at KS3 and study a broad and diverse curriculum following a thematic approach. Topics include The Norman Conquest, Henry VIII, Enslavement and Modern Terrorism in Years 7-9. A particular highlight in KS3 is the Year 8 WWI day, where students take part in workshops, to have a hands-on-learning experience of life in the Trenches and the Home Front. At KS4, students study the Edexcel specification for GCSE. Topics include Medicine in Britain, The American West, Anglo-Saxon & Norman England and Weimar & Nazi Germany. History is a popular GCSE course at KS4 and regularly has 4 GCSE groups in Years 10 and 11. The development of effective pedagogy at the Fernwood School is something we are deeply passionate about and the successful candidate would contribute to the schemes of learning with ideas, activities and resources.
