The Fernwood School has been awarded Lead School status in the network of teaching excellence in Computer Science for the 3rd year in a row. We are proud to once again represent the Midlands in leading other schools into the new Computer Science curriculum for KS3 and 4. As part of our role we will be working with schools in the region to raise the standard of education for the digital age.

The Fernwood School Computer System’s curriculum is broken down into 3 key areas of Computing:
We offer a wide range of exciting projects across Key stage 3 that feed directly into a variety of GCSE options for Key Stage 4. Each student will do 5 projects per academic year at Key Stage 3 with 2 lessons per week. Here are the projects and topic areas covered in our curriculum:
Students receive 3 lessons per week in KS4. It is optional to choose Computer Systems although we strongly recommend taking a qualification for later life.
All of our projects are marked over 4 key assessment strands. These strands correlate directly to the process of any project in the world of work. These strands are:
