Design and technology is everywhere and in everything. It would be impossible for you to be reading this now without DT, from the computer or mobile device from which you are viewing it, to the infrastructure and systems which are serving this webpage to you. DT is essential to everyone’s future. Imagine what would happen without creative minds developing new products and solutions to essential everyday problems and desires? Science & maths are the theory, but this is where the theory reaches reality.
Pupils throughout KS3 are upskilled in the design and creation of products from a wide variety of materials. They are taught the design process, and are encouraged and supported with the creation of new and unique items. Design and technology is the combination of practical knowledge with transferrable skills such as problem solving and analytical thinking.

The design and technology department delivers the knowledge and skills relating to product design, graphics, engineering, systems & control, food technology, computer aided design along with more traditional material manipulation skills. Staff work hard to ensure this is delivered through the medium of both engaging and challenging project work, often embedding the skills into a real life scenario. Projects, immersion days, clubs and learning outside of standard lesson times, are often linked directly to industrial STEM contexts such as the formula24 club working in conjunction with Siemens, or Design Day, where we invite in a dozen companies to work with our year 9 students on a real world design scenario over a 6 hour immersion day.
