We are aware of how important it is for all children to be confident, fluent readers – not just to access their education, but also to enable them to enjoy all of the joys that reading has to offer. Although we would love to see you all face-to-face, we hope that by enabling you to access the videos that we have made for you at your own convenience, as well as being able to revisit them as and when needed, you will really be able to make the most of the support that we offer. Please use the videos alongside the pack of resources gifted to your child.
Following primary school, when parents are encouraged to read with and to their children and document this in a reading log, there appears to be a shift towards children reading much more independently. Whilst independent reading is certainly to be encouraged, it is perhaps also worthwhile for us to remember that books can still be shared, and used as a great way to spend time enjoying something together – either reading aloud together or sharing thoughts, ideas and opinions on a book that you have both read.
We sincerely hope that you enjoy the activities that we have suggested, and look forward to hearing about what the children have been doing at home when they return their bookmarks to school.
