Gold Fernwood Award Presentation Evening

Published on 13th March 2015

Dear Parent/Carer

The First Ever Presentation Evening of the Gold Fernwood Award

You may recall in March 2014, we introduced a new rewards system that we have called “The Fernwood Award.” This has been made available to all students. In order to qualify for the Gold Award, the students needed to have achieved a set number of points in all 6 areas, My Progress, My Learning, My Well-being, Getting Involved, Teamwork, and Citizenship. The points have only been awarded when a student demonstrates going that extra mile, putting themselves out and pushing themselves to excel.  As a consequence this recognises their commitment not only to their own academic progress and learning, but also their own well-being, their teamwork ability and their commitment to others through citizenship, in fact all the necessary attributes that are recognised in a well-rounded and  balanced young person. We have been in discussion with local post 16 establishments to explain the relevance of the Fernwood Award in the context of the school reference and the student’s own record of achievement.

To celebrate this fantastic achievement, we are holding a presentation evening at Bilborough 6th Form College New Drama Theatre on Monday 23rd March at 7.30pm.  We are lucky to have a very special inspirational speaker to address our evening in Mr Paul Irons, our Chair of Governors.

This promises to be a very proud occasion for all, not least the staff, as it has taken years in planning  and is the first ever presentation of the Fernwood Award. There will be other award ceremonies for the Bronze Award for Year 8 in the summer term and the current Year 9 later in the year.
