Year 7 Baseline Assessment Report

Dear Parent/Carer

Firstly, I would like to wish all our Year 7 students and parents a Happy New Year.

Secondly, I would like to invite all parents of Year 7 students to an important event on Wednesday 1 February, 2017 at 6.30pm in the school hall.

The Fernwood school has been busy developing a new Key Stage 3 assessment strategy. Many parents will be aware of the following:

The practice of using National Curriculum Levels to assess attainment and measure progress has been terminated by the government
In the absence of a national assessment system all secondary schools have been grappling with developing their own systems
The Fernwood School has learned from the best practice elsewhere and is developing its own assessment policy and practice
A key component of the Fernwood strategy is to complete a thorough baseline assessment of each Year 7 student by the end of the autumn term.

We are now ready to share with you your son/daughter’s results. We have compiled a new report called Baseline Assessment Report which will be made available on the evening of 1 February.

Parents are invited to attend a presentation by myself to:

Outline our new assessment policy and practice
Explain how the baseline assessment works and how to interpret the report
Receive your son/daughter’s report.

There will be senior staff in attendance to offer guidance and answer questions.

You may also be interested in joining a new parent working group to give feedback and constructive support in this important area of development. Parents can register their interest in participating in the group at the above event.
