Online Learning and Well-being

Published on 7th May 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

Firstly, the Fernwood staff would like to thank you for your commitment to your child’s learning and well-being during these unprecedented times and continued lockdown. The teachers at Fernwood are missing teaching your children as it is the profession they chose and love, and without that in-school interaction, it’s just not the same.

As your child continues to develop and build their independent learning skills, your child’s teachers continue to diligently set and monitor work on Google Classroom. The teachers are enjoying seeing the work come through on Google Classroom, monitoring the volume of work and providing feedback where appropriate.

However, there are a small number of children across the school that are; 1) engaging with the work but not uploading it to Google Classroom so their teacher can’t see the fantastic work they have completed, or 2) in an extremely small number of cases, not engaging with the work at all.

This could be for a number of reasons and if there are issues with this then we would like to point you in the right direction to support your child in their continued online learning and well-being at home. Please see below:

  • Before starting the work each week ensure they read the instructions carefully.
  • For support and information for Online Learning including resources and challenges, please visit the section below on the school website. This will tell you how to access Google Classroom, as well as uploading work. Please ensure your child uploads their work to be reviewed.
  • For support, information and fantastic resources for well-being, please visit the section below on the school website. Please be aware that this is being regularly updated, especially the challenges and activities page.
  • Encourage your child to complete their activity and learning logs and upload them to Google Classroom so tutors can award Fernwood Award Points.

If for any reason your child is still struggling to access the work please contact their Head of Year.

I hope you and your family are well given the current circumstances.

Kind regards

Paul Burke
