Results Day 2020

Published on 22nd July 2020

Dear parents, carers and students,

I hope this letter finds you well.  I am writing to give you some important information regarding GCSE Results Day and the arrangements for the collection of results from The Fernwood School. This will take place on Thursday 20th August 2020 as planned.

Due to the ever-changing circumstances linked to COVID-19, we are planning a scenario whereby we must adhere to social distancing guidelines.  Results will be made available to students from 9:00am with only a certain number of students able to come into school to collect their results at any one time. It is with regret that parents and carers will not be allowed on site during the distribution of results.

In order to do this in a quick and efficient manner, students will be allocated a time to collect their results and will be grouped alphabetically by surname.  This allows us to limit the number of students and staff who will be in proximity of each other. Therefore, the following timings will apply:

9:00-9:30am: Surnames A-B

9:30-10:00am: Surnames C-H

10:00-10:30am: Surnames I-M

10:30-11:00am: Surnames N-R

11:00-11:30am: Surnames S-Z

Parents and carers who wish to accompany their child to collect their GCSE results must wait outside the school gates.  Students will need to enter the school through the main reception and they will be guided through to the new school hall to collect their results.  There will be a one-way system in place to ensure that students exit the hall and the school premises via the main school car park.

If students miss their allocated time slot, or they are unable to attend on the day, GCSE certificates will be made available to collect from the school reception during office hours from Friday 21st August 2020 onwards.

Given these unprecedented times your daughter or son may prefer to have their results emailed, posted or collected by a nominated person. If the student would like to adopt one of these methods rather than collecting their results on 20th August they must submit a written and signed request from themselves (as a student) specifying the preferred methodology by 31st July 2020. If they would like the results to be emailed the request must include the nominated email address and if they would like the results to be collected on their behalf then they must provide the name of the nominated person. The postal address used to send results in the post will be the primary address in our school data base, if the student wishes to use this option then we recommend their address is checked and updated using ParentApp. Please remember all requests must be written and signed from the student.

Requests can be in the form of a written note to be handed in to the school office during opening hours or an email with the letter as a scanned attachment sent to Mrs Smith (Exams Officer):

We appreciate that this is not the traditional results day that The Fernwood School is accustomed to, however, at this time we must do all we can to adhere to government guidelines.  Should there be updated guidance before 20th August that allows us to change the plans outlined in this letter, we will be in touch.

If after receiving the results you have any queries please email and we will do our best to respond.

Mr Smith and Mr Hughes, along with the team of Year 11 tutors, continue to be available to support any applications for post 16 courses so please contact us if you require support.

We are very much looking forward to seeing the Year 11 students again in August to congratulate them on their GCSE success.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Yours faithfully,

Paul Burke
