A very warm welcome to The Fernwood School. We know it is a very important time for you and your child. It is the first step of your child’s future at The Fernwood School.
It is our priority to make sure your child settles quickly and feels happy in school and is motivated to learn.
Welcome to The Fernwood School. Over the past weeks we have been working very closely with your child’s primary school on the Transition from Year 6 to Year 7. We had previously hoped to be able to run the Year 6 Transition Days on Tuesday 6th July and Wednesday 7th July in the usual way. Unfortunately however, due to recent increased transmission rates of Covid 19 (including an increase this week in positive Covid cases and significant numbers of our own current students having to self-isolate) we have reluctantly taken the decision for health and safety reasons, not to go ahead with the Transition and Induction Days.
This means we cannot run our planned activities for Year 6 in school. We have not taken this decision lightly. In order to be equitable to all 300 new students who will be joining us, there will be a Transition and Induction Page on our website available from Thursday 15th July to enable you and your child/children to be able to view welcome messages/introductions from tutors/key pastoral staff and different curriculum departments.
All relevant information regarding your child/children in relation to academic progress and any pastoral, medical, or specific needs is being passed on to Mrs Morrill, Assistant Head Teacher with responsibility for KS2/KS3 Transition and Mr Grant, SENCO, as well as Mr Walker, Pastoral Team Leader for Year 7 and Mrs Churchward, Assistant Pastoral Leader for Year 7, in preparation for September. Your child will be placed in one of 12 new mixed ability tutor groups which will be carefully compiled to create balanced classes across the year group. We take into account all relevant information passed on from our Year 6 teachers including consideration of friendship information.
The Fernwood School is a highly successful school. One of the main reasons for this is the very positive working relationship that we establish very early on with parents and carers. Our Home School Partnership Agreement, which I have attached, supports the importance of this relationship. It is essential that this is agreed as part of our consent process in order to establish a clear and positive working relationship. Please could I ask that you complete the consents form via Google (click here) by Tuesday 13th July 2021.
We look forward to being able to welcome you into The Fernwood School in the future.
Attached is a very important booklet which we would ask you to read through carefully as it sets out the next steps of your child’s induction into Fernwood. Please note instructions for ordering your child’s uniform/PE kit and the arrangements for the first day of term on Thursday 2nd September.
