Parent Voice

The Fernwood School continually seeks to enhance and build upon its fundamental principle of “High Achievement with Care and Discipline for All”.

In striving to enhance care, progress and achievement for all students, The Fernwood School regularly seeks to develop opportunities to communicate with parents (on a variety of different issues) through parent voice activities, to seek feedback and, where possible, to act on this feedback.

Recent Parent Voice activities have included:

Year 7 Reports – New Baseline Assessments – April/May 2017

Key issues raised/discussed:

  1. Parents found the Parental Information Evening for baseline assessments very informative.
  2. Parents requested a summary graph on the front of the new report to show relative progress across all subjects at a glance.
  3. An extra progress bar for June next to January’s progress bar was requested.
  4. Parents requested behaviour/effort/and homework information also be added to the updated baseline report.
  5. Parents suggested guidance notes in the side-bar of the report could be slimmed down.
  6. Parents would like the school to explore further the issuing of student reports via email.
  7. Parents would like more key information/subject assessment criteria from curriculum departments for each banding to be available on the website.

In response to the detailed parent voice activity sessions the school has implemented all of the above parental requests and applied these to the updated June Year 7 reports.

Thank you to all the parents who took part – it is very much appreciated.
