We start with an introductory unit entitled ‘What is History?’ where we check and consolidate pupils’ knowledge of key historical terms such as fact, opinion and evidence and their understanding of time. They then study the important year of 1066 and why William of Normandy won the Battle of Hastings. They go on to investigate key events in the history of our country – the Crusades, the Black Death and the Reformation.
As Veenesh says in Year 9 ‘It’s not dead boring.’ Pupils tell us they like the interesting facts and that we study different cultures and how they have affected Britain – it's not all about dates! They enjoy asking questions and having discussions about why life in Britain is like it is today.
